Vijay Patel Building, De Montfort University

Brief:
The client sought a reputable and competent electrical contractor to carry out all stages of electrical design and installation working in conjunction with the main building contractor. It was imperative that the various electrical systems were suitable to meet the demands of the size and amenities within this University facility.

Solution:
Working closely with the client, Lowe Electrical provided:

Result:
DMU’s new Vijay Patel Building, home to the faculty of Art, Design and Humanities, is the centrepiece of the £136 million Campus Transformation Project. Lowe Electrical worked on this project with foodservice design experts; CDS Wilman and contract catering leaders; Chartwells, who are part of the Compass Group. A team of six Lowe engineers worked on site for over six months, managing and delivering the vision that the University set out to achieve.

Brief:
To work with our Client and provide an on going design and installation service for a programme of improvements, and carrying out specific projects throughout the facility.

Solution:
Working closely with the client, Lowe Electrical provided:

• Improvements to the research and development department
• Material testing laboratory (Atlas)
• Re-positioning of the main data room facility
• Installation of electric vehicle charging points
• Power supplies to new engineering machinery

They offer contact and non- contact surface and form metrology solutions for the most demanding applications, and operate on a global scale. Regent sixth-form college

August 2012

Client:
Regent College is a sixth-form facility located in Leicester city centre.

Brief:
The electrical systems around the College required updating and upgrading to ensure the institution met its safety obligations and stayed within regulation.

Solution:
A full site survey and consultation with the Principal was carried out enabling Lowe Electrical to produce an individual, modernised lighting and power scheme.
• The Sports Department changing facility was altered so that the lighting system worked more efficiently and ensured adequate safety
• Dining room and Café lighting was modernised and improved with the installation of decorative fittings
• A new power and data system was installed in the IT rooms and in addition a comfort cooling system was installed
• To improve energy efficiency, new lighting controls were installed throughout the College and alterations made to the incoming electrical service and main switchgear.

Result:
As a result of the recent upgrades and improvements, the College’s energy consumption has proved to be far more efficient and the overall appearance and ambience has greatly improved.

Lowe Electrical has a long-standing relationship with the College and continues to provide it with a 24-hour electrical maintenance service as well as routine services such as EL testing.

High end residential home

Client:
A high end residential home in the final build phase.

Brief:
The client sought a reputable and competent electrical contractor to carry out all stages of electrical installation working in conjunction with the main building contractor. It was imperative that the various electrical systems were suitable to meet the demands of the size and amenities within this prestigious dwelling.

Solution:
Working closely with the client, architect and several sub-contractors Lowe Electrical provided:

• Design
• Lighting and power
• Intruder alarm
• Data network
• Heating and ventilation
• Swimming pool controls

Result:
A complex range of electrical systems were successfully installed. The client’s needs were met in a professional and customer focused manner.

We continue to maintain a long standing relationship with the main contractor and the architect.

Thames Barrier

August 2012

Client:
The Thames Barrier is the largest movable flood barrier in the UK providing protection to the city of London during storm surges and high tides.

Brief:
Essential repairs and maintenance was required at the Thames Barrier comprising the installation of a new Diesel Rotary UPS System (Drups) to ensure the continued functionality of the equipment.

Solution:
Hitzinger UK were instructed to build the DRUPS and Lowe Electrical to carry out associated installation and wiring.

Working in close partnership with Hitzinger UK an appropriate design and installation programme was drafted by Lowe Electrical and a two-phase plan put in place for the manufacture and installation, splitting this between Leicester and on-site in London.

Result:
The two-phase approach lowered installation costs, reduced construction time at the Thames RIver site and enabled other trades access to the DRUPS unit ahead of schedule. Efficient planning and communication with the client ensured that the overall outcome was financially beneficial.

Leicester City Council

August 2012

Client:
Leicester City Council is the local authority responsible for maintaining many of the city’s schools, offices, heritage sites, parks/gardens, museums and leisure centres, along with hosting numerous annual events

Brief:
Ongoing maintenance of a variety of sites was required by the local authority, who sought to appoint an ‘approved contractor’ capable of providing a professional and reliable service.

Solution:
An annual contract was awarded to Lowe Electrical to provide routine service and maintenance of varying electrical systems and in addition to advise and assist on proposed electrical installations.

• Maintaining lighting, small power and distribution systems
• Installation and design of lighting and small power systems
• Implementing annual planned maintenance and testing emergency lighting
• Managing nominated sub-contractors
• Periodic testing and inspection of buildings
• Providing 24 hours emergency electrical services

Result:
An excellent working relationship with the City Council spanning some 10 years, during which time Lowe Electrical have been involved in a broad spectrum of installations. Our comprehensive electrical service has ensured that we provided the very best solution to meet each and every need of the city, its servants and the public at large.

Merriman Ltd

Client:
Merriman Ltd provides land remediation, building and investment solutions to investors, home owners, housing associations and businesses.

Brief:
Due to the expansion of the company, Merriman Ltd. required a new office to house the Construction and Property sectors. This building needed to reflect the prestige of the existing business.

Solution:
Purpose built offices were designed and working in conjunction with Merriman as the main contractor, Lowe Electrical designed and installed a high specification electrical and lighting system that was not only practical and efficient in its function, but also suitably complex to showcase the Merriman construction and property services.
